Commercial Job #2

Coleman Hall Renovation, Technical College of the Lowcountry, Beaufort, SC

  • Award Price: $553,382
  • Architect: Montgomery Architecture & Planning
  • Project Delivery: Design-Bid-Build

Coleman Hall is in Building 2 at the Technical College of the Lowcountry’s Beaufort campus. It is a former ETV recording studio that the College decided to renovate for use by college administrators. The project consisted of restructuring the space from open studios to private work spaces. This involved demolishing walls and building new walls per the scope of work. The project also involved a retrofit to the existing HVAC system to accommodate the new layout of the offices, break rooms, and conference rooms.

The most challenging aspect of this project was that half of the work area was occupied throughout the duration of the project and Mitchell Brothers only had 70 days to complete the entire scope of work. A combination of temporary partition walls and a willingness to work after hours meant that the people occupying the space were never hindered by our work. Though this contract could have easily taken 6 months, our willingness to take advantage of afternoons and weekends coupled with extensive experience with coordinating materials and labor, allowed us to complete the project in just 70 days. The client was pleased and we look forward to working with them in the future.
