Renovations and Upgrades to Bluffton Fire District Station # 33, Bluffton, SC

  • Award Price: $736,610
  • Architect: AAG Architects
  • Project Delivery: Design-Build

This project consisted of the design and construction of the Addition/Renovations to Bluffton Township Fire Department’s Station 33. An approximately 1,800 sq. ft. wood framed structure was added and connected to the existing building. The new addition included bathrooms, a laundry room, utility room, and 5 individual bunk rooms. The entire facility received new EIFS exterior, fire alarm system, fire sprinkler, and new parking lot. The existing 2000 sq. ft. space was gutted and renovated to include new entrance vestibule, new kitchen, day room, and offices for EMS/Fire personnel. Also, a 1,000 sq. ft. storage bay was built at the back of the property to be used as storage for a ladder truck. All work was completed while the fire station remained occupied and operational.

Mitchell Brothers teamed up with AAG Associates to accomplish this design-build project, consisting of the Additions/Renovations to Bluffton Township Fire Department Station 33. We were able to give the fire department multiple design and cost options so that they could decide the most economical way to accomplish everything they wanted for the facilities in addition to specific requirements mandatory for them. We also were able to devise a phasing plan for the work on this project to allow the firemen to continue to live/work at the facility for the whole time that the work was being performed and to successfully implement this for a great outcome. All parties were very proud of the work done using the design-build method on this project, including in terms of design, features, implementation and the outcome of the work performed.
